Next-Gen PCs: Introducing Microsoft Copilot+ PCs

Last month, on the new Microsoft campus at Redmond USA, the tech giant introduced a brand new PC category. Copilot+ PCs are a revolutionary breed of devices designed to transform how your teams work. In this article we explore their capabilities and their potential impact on your business.

Copilot + PCs: Powering Productivity with AI

Copilot+ PCs go beyond traditional processing power. At their core lies a Neural Processing Unit (NPU), dedicated to performing AI specific tasks, reducing the burden on the CPU and GPU. As the brand name suggests, think of it as a dedicated copilot for your end users, accelerating AI tasks without compromising on speed and performance.

It does this by offloading all AI specific tasks to the NPU. This improves device performance dramatically, such as by extending battery life. The classification criteria for a Copilot+ PC is as follows:

  • It has a dedicated Copilot key embedded in the keyboard (like the Windows key).
  • It must run Windows 11.
  • Has a Pluton security processor.
  • Meets the performance requirements of 40 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second).

Currently, only Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Elite X chipsets achieve 40 TOPS performance. However, over the next year we expect other manufacturers to meet this criteria and join this new PC category. As well as a better battery life, Copilot+ PCs also boast more RAM for multitasking ease and high-capacity drives to store all your crucial data.

Pre-orders for Copilot+ PCs are already open, with availability starting on 18th June. Pricing starts at an attractive $999. With Windows 10 support ending in October 2025, these PCs present a timely opportunity to upgrade your fleet to Windows 11.

The AI Revolution in Your Organisation

Device performance is clearly a key driver when upgrading your device estate, but what about the AI capabilities? What will a Copilot+ PC do for your end users and business overall?

Intelligent PCs, powered by AI, hold immense potential for departments across your organisation, igniting imagination and fueling innovation across departments. Here are the features of Copilot+ PCs and their use cases in a business environment:

Recall: This feature acts like a "superpower" for memory, allowing your teams to search through everything they've done on their PC using natural language. No more digging through folders or search histories – just ask Recall to find that specific presentation, email snippet or online resource.

Imagine using Recall to instantly access past customer interactions and relevant product details during a call. This could help Sales close deals faster and your Customer Services team elevate their interactions with customers.

Cocreator: Unleash your teams' creativity. Cocreator helps them generate and refine images with the power of AI. Need a fresh take on a presentation slide? Cocreator can help non-designers elevate their visuals. While Marketing can use Cocreator for inspiration and to quickly turnaround design projects such as generating social media graphics or ad banners.

Live Captions and Creative Filters: Real-time captioning removes language barriers in meetings, while creative filters enhance video calls, making presentations more engaging.

The benefits for end-users are undeniable: increased productivity, improved collaboration, and a more streamlined workflow. For businesses, it's about unlocking efficiencies, nurturing creativity, and gaining a competitive edge.

Maximising the Copilot Advantage: User Adoption is Key

While Copilot and generative AI technology is intuitive by design, user adoption is crucial to unlock its full potential. Any change to the way we work requires careful planning and support to deliver ROI - helping your colleagues and end users embrace the technology.

Providing your teams with training and support ensures they can leverage the full capabilities of Copilot+ PCs. For example, effective prompts can significantly impact results. In our experience, helping users master the art of the prompt will maximise the efficiency and innovation these tools can drive.
