Ghosted by Your IT Supplier? 5 IT Nightmares Worth Putting to Rest

October 26, 2026

Some Halloween horrors are easily dealt with. The decorations come down, the last sweets disappear, and the skeleton goes back in the cupboard.

Others have a purchase order attached.

The laptop order with an uncertain delivery date. The renewal that sends a shiver through your budget. The supplier who was remarkably easy to reach before you signed, but has since become a paranormal investigator’s next assignment.

Rising costs, long lead times, hardware refreshes and increasingly complicated projects can leave IT teams with plenty to keep them up at night.

Behind these everyday IT nightmares is a serious question: is your technology partner helping you move things forward, or just giving your team more things to chase?

Ghosted by Your Supplier

You need an update. You send an email. Then another. Somewhere, a phone rings into the void.

Meanwhile, someone in your business is asking when their equipment will arrive or their problem will be resolved. Your IT team becomes the go-between, chasing answers it should already have.

A dependable partner should make responsibility clear and keep you informed, including when the news is disappointing. An honest update gives you something to work with. Silence leaves you managing everybody else’s expectations without the facts.

Spooked by Price Increases

Few things make the heart race quite like a quote that looks nothing like the figure in your plan.

When costs change, the immediate question is often: “Can we get this cheaper?” It is a fair question. But there are others worth asking. Does everyone need the same specification? Are you paying for licences that no longer match how people work? Could a phased refresh help you prioritise the most urgent needs?

Good advice starts with understanding the requirement and exploring the trade-offs. The cheapest purchase can become expensive if it creates extra support work or needs replacing too soon.

Vanishing Delivery Dates

An unavailable device rarely affects just one line on a spreadsheet. It can hold up a new starter, a refresh programme or a wider project.

And a substitute is only useful if it actually fits the job.

This is where a partner should help assess suitable alternatives, explain any differences and establish realistic expectations. Your team needs enough visibility to plan around uncertainty, with clear updates when circumstances change.

“Still waiting” is a status. It is not much of a plan.

Skeletons in the Server Room

Every organisation has its version of “we’ll come back to that”.

An ageing server. A system only one person fully understands. A temporary workaround that appears to have acquired permanent residency.

These things are not necessarily evidence of poor decisions. Often, they reflect teams keeping the business running while more immediate priorities take over.

What you need to do is make them visible: understand what depends on them, assess the consequences if they break and agree what needs attention first. Shining a light on these skeletons is a much better way of dealing with them than keeping them in the dark.

The Project That Grew Extra Limbs

It started as a hardware refresh. Now there are questions about licensing, security, cloud services, deployment and who will support everything afterwards.

Technology decisions connect to one another. When those connections are overlooked, internal IT teams can end up stitching the whole thing together themselves.

An IT partner should help join those conversations up early, bringing in the right expertise and keeping the business objective in view. What needs to work better? Who will use it? How will it be managed once it is live?

Those questions help keep a straightforward requirement from becoming a monster.

A Little Less Chasing. A Little More Confidence.

No partner can promise that prices will never change, equipment will always be available or every project will go exactly to plan.

What matters is how they help you respond: with clear communication, considered advice and a commitment to supporting you even when things become complicated.

At TIEVA, we work with organisations across modern workplace, cloud, cybersecurity, network and managed services, helping ensure technology supports what matters most to the business.
